The X-Drill is a great way for you to work on getting in and out of shooting positions. If I recall correctly, I saw this drill originally from Pat McNamara (T-Mac) on social media over ten years ago. He does this a little bit differently than I do, but you can modify this drill however you want to meet your needs. Personally, I like cones on the corners and/or barricades. Cones let you shoot into position a little sooner, while barricades reinforce your stand-off, or arms length away, as well as reinforcing your gun and eye breaking at the same time.
This drill can be a bit confusing the first time you run it, but it gets easier, trust me. It's broken down like this:
Create a box using either 4 cones, barricades, agility sticks, etc., with a cone for the start point in the middle. Cones should be about 5 yards from the start point. On the buzzer, draw and fire, 1 or 2 rounds, it’s up to you, and once you get your hits, MOVE. You will move to one of the outside cones and once you get into position, fire 1 or 2 rounds. Once you get your hits, move back to the center. Repeat this process until all 4 corners have been hit. You must finish in the middle. Your focus here is two fold. First, can you be ready to shoot when it's time to shoot? Meaning is the gun up and are you settling into position so that you can pull the trigger when you see the sight on the target? Secondly, can you call your last shot as the sight lifts to start moving right away to the next shooting position? Times will be based on how many rounds you shoot in each position and how far apart the corners are.
Have fun with this drill! Good luck!
